Meet the family behind Little Hands Family Daycare

Hi! I’m Ivy. Lovely to meet you!

My Children:

I am a mother to two very inquisitive, infinitely capable, funny and unique individuals: Kai, 5 and Lana, 3.

Kai loves to read books, build with duplo, lego and wooden blocks and create brilliant things with paper, modelling clay, play dough, and sand. He’s a curious investigator and constantly keeps us on our toes. He also loves music and making up his own songs and rhymes. Collecting sticks and rocks is one of his favourite things to do but only second to giving his little sister lots of hugs and cuddles.

Lana absolutely adores her big brother and is interested in just about everything Kai’s interested in. She’s an active little child who takes pure delight in outdoor play, a determined climber, loves riding her bicycle and loves getting tickles from Kai and her Dad, Richard. She and her brother get along well and have so much fun exploring and playing alongside each other.

Something about me:

I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and have over 10 years of experience altogether working as an ESL teacher and an International Montessori Preschool Educator in Japan (7 years) and as an Early Childhood Educator in a long daycare setting in Sydney (4 years).

I love going to the park with my children, reading books, singing and dancing silly with them and discovering new things alongside them everyday. Since becoming a mum, I’ve realised how invaluable it is to have the best foundation for early learning. Becoming more reflective of what I do to foster children’s interests as they understand more about the world is something that I consciously practice; it’s a continuously progressing journey through which I find personal growth in my experiences as an educator.

I also find pure delight in setting up beautiful learning spaces that are natural, open-ended, and reflective of children’s ongoing interests. I’m a big believer in the use of open-ended resources that invite conversations and interactions,  encourage collaboration and cooperation in amongst peers, and promote innovation and creativity.

I want to keep evolving as a mum and as an Early Childhood educator and be able to live out my passion in Early Childhood Education; I know that starting a Family Daycare will allow me this wonderful opportunity! It will not only give me the chance to see my children grow and get to spend so many precious moments with them, but it will also give me and my family the opportunity to forge new friendships.

If a home-based learning environment within a small group setting of 4 children is what would work for you and your family, then please come and say hello to us! We’d love to hear from you.
